Great trip to Dolby Labs today visiting one of our Salford placement students. They have a new screening room kitted out for 11.1 and are working with Pixar and Disney on projected 7.1 cinema releases. Screening room niiiiice and almost complete. See article here and exerpt below ….
Dolby Works With Disney and Pixar to Create a New
Dolby Laboratories Inc. announced it is working with Walt
Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios to launch a
new audio format, Dolby Surround 7.1. According to the
company, Dolby Surround 7.1 provides content creators
four surround zones to better orchestrate audio channels in
a movie theatre environment. The company stated that the
new format will bring a more exciting sensory experience
to audiences for 2D and give content creators control over
audio placement in a theatre when mixing 3D movies.
The company reported that Dolby Surround 7.1 will be
launched in select theatres with the release of Toy Story 3
in 3D this June.

Pictures International, based in London, is relocating to the
studio’s worldwide headquarters in Burbank, and will take
on the additional Latin American distribution operations
as Executive Vice President, Europe and Latin America
Distribution. According to the company, Ms. Esclavissat
is responsible for regional supervision of Warner Bros.
Pictures’ distribution activities in Europe, Eastern Europe,
the Middle East, Africa and, now, Latin America.
Dolby getting back to developing new formats, nice to see some students and ex-students involved with it all. I even avoided delays in the dreaded Brum car park (M6)
